Every year, we brew a special beer with Strahov Monastery Brewery inspired by desserts of Austrian and Central European cuisine. In 2023, it was a dark strong Germknödel with fudge and vanilla, last year with blueberries, and this year we decided for a slightly different, but no less rich interpretation – Makovec, the poppy seeds cake.   The base beer is a strong bottom-fermented bock with a full malt body. We added Czech blue poppy seeds to bring earthiness and an oily texture, real vanilla for roundness and limes for a fresh citrus line. The resulting taste is reminiscent of Austrian poppy seed cake with a lime glaze – sweet but not sticky, bold but still drinkable.
