To celebrate this year’s Scottish Games in Zichovec, we’ve brewed a new version of a Dry Stout that is hopped more heavily with the English East Kent Golding variety, adding a deeper, earthier character to the beer.

Although stout is most famous in Ireland, its origins are in England and throughout its history it has found local versions in all parts of the British Isles. Stouts are made from roasted barley, which gives the beer its typical dark visual and roasted bitter taste reminiscent of coffee and sometimes even coal. It is no coincidence that stouts developed in the British Isles, as the gypsum bedrock here produces water springs with elevated levels of alkaline minerals that balance the natural acidity of dark malts. As a result, the stouts are usually silky smooth despite their honest roastiness.
