For casual winter sipping, we’ve prepared an oatmeal stout made with roasted malt, oatmeal and oat malt. You can expect a pleasant combination of a distinctive roasted flavour and a velvety oat body that makes for a huge drinkability.

The wave of oatmeal stouts came from Scotland and northern England in the late 19th century, riding on the fabricated health benefits of oats and alcohol. We won’t promise you any health benefits, but what remains is the wonderful velvety balance that oatmeal stouts offer. Thanks to the high protein content of oatmeal and oat malt, the mouthfeel is very smooth and the bitterness of roasted malts fades slightly into the background. This creates a very pleasant roasted chocolate experience that is very easy to drink by the pint. In our Coming Oat stout, we used Golden Naked Oats alongside the oatmeal and malt, and they have a light nuttiness that comes through nicely in the flavour. Otherwise, look forward to an unflavored, proper dark beer. But back to the hops. We reached for our favorite New Zealand hops, Nelson Sauvin and Motueka, which taste subtly of grapes and limes but can also add a nice resinousness to the beer. And we balanced the beer with the reliable Citra, which simply never disappoints and its pleasant citrus flavour goes well with everything.
