For fans of traditional lager, this year we brewed Vánočka in the style of a modern German Pils. We used the modern, elegant German variety of Spalter Select hops, and we created the malt body by using Pilsner malts with a dash of Viennese malts. The beer is super drinkable with a pleasant bitterness and a floral aroma of German hops.

No one here argues about the quality of Czech raw ingredients, and you know very well that we use Czech ingredients all-year-round. But we often enjoy reaching for something typical of foreign brewing traditions, such as German hops and malts. It is very interesting how, despite the similar climate and history, our cultivation efforts developed in different ways and created crops that are very far apart despite their similarities. German lagers tend to have a much more pronounced malty profile, and their hops tend to be far more floral and less bitter and herbal than our domestic production. There is no better occasion than the festive Christmas table, where to go for a slightly less typical taste, although still very traditional.
