A new addition to our dry-hopped lager series is just arriving. In it you will find the fragrant Southern Passion hops grown in South Africa. This offers a very appealing character of mango, guava and coconut along with a bit of that South African terroir in the form of a light tobacco woodiness.

You will taste the so-called IPL (India Pale Lager). A style that combines the malty qualities of a traditional Czech lager with the hopping more typical of modern IPA style beers. The resulting flavour is always a little bit in a category of its own and has proven to be a gateway for orthodox Czech lager fans entering the world of modern styles. South African varieties aren’t completely hidden from us, but many of us may not know that hops like Southern Passion in particular come from breeding programs in Africa’s most remote country. There is a very familiar name to the Czech beer drinker. SAB (later SAB Miller), former owner of Plzeňský Prazdroj and now part of the world’s largest beer conglomerate AB InBev, which owns most of South Africa’s hop production, is also behind the breeding efforts of varieties grown for the specific climate of the Cape of Good Hope.
